The State Advisory Council on Nutrition was created by the Governor in 1985 (Executive Order 01.01.1985.35). It was reformed in 1988 and 1996 (Executive Orders 01.01.1988.02, 01.01.1996.09). The Council formulated State policy to provide food and nutrition services to low-income persons in Maryland. It reviewed programs providing nutrition and health services, and nutrition education and training, and analyzed their success. To prevent and treat malnutrition, the Council monitored the health and nutrition of low-income persons and encouraged partnerships among federal, State, local and private agencies.
Authorization for the Council was rescinded in February 2000 when the State Advisory Council on Hunger was mandated (Executive Order 01.01.2000.06).
