The Advisory Committee on the Management and Protection of the State's Water Resources (2005) was created by the Governor in May 2005 (Executive Order 01.01.2005.25). The Committee is a successor to an advisory committee of the same name, which was also known as the Water Resource Management Advisory Committee, created in December 2002 (Executive Order 01.01.2002.05; Executive Order 01.01.2003.08). In its final report of May 28, 2004, the 2002 Committee recommended the establishment of this advisory committee to continue the regular assessment of the availability of the State's water resources.
Because the demand for water in Maryland is expected to increase by 233 million gallons per day by 2030, the Committee is to develop a comprehensive strategy to meet that demand. The strategy goal is to ensure the State's water resources are adequate for meeting current and projected needs everywhere in Maryland.
